On Thursday, December 4th, 2025, at 6:30 a.m., correctional staff from the Del Norte County Jail were alerted to an incarcerated person having a medical emergency. Custody staff and jail medical personnel immediately responded and administered emergency medical assistance. Paramedics responded to the Del Norte County Jail, however the incarcerated person was pronounced deceased by Sheriff’s Deputy Coroners on December 4th, 2025.

On 12/21/25 at 1:15 PM, Del Norte County Sheriff’s Deputies executed a felony arrest warrant at a residence in the 6000 block of Kings Valley Road. Mykah Mode was taken into custody and deputies conducted a search of his residence. Two loaded handguns, methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana and suboxone strips wrapped in latex were found, which is consistent with attempts to smuggle items into jail.
